3 tips to find the right job for you

by | Jan 1, 2024 | Finance and Business

Trying to find the right job is no easy feat. It’s hard work to filter through dozens of roles to know what to look for and find the perfect fit. Here are some tips to help make your search a little easier:

  1. Work-life balance
We all know that work-life balance is important. While some people prefer nine to five, others benefit from jobs that offer shiftwork. If this is something you feel strongly about – consider looking for a job that offers flexible schedules to give you more freedom.
  2. Meaningful work
It’s generally more rewarding to work somewhere you can find meaning. For example, working to support communities, for an employer that values your skills or somewhere you can establish meaningful relationships with co-workers and clients who can give you feelings of self-fulfillment and happiness.
  3. The right benefits
There are many positions out there that offer great benefits. When evaluating a job, make sure it has the perks you want and need, whether it’s competitive wages, a pension, good health-care benefits or the opportunity for personal and professional growth. Before you start looking for a job, determine what kind of benefits are important to you. This will help narrow your search.

Making the choice: If you cherish having your evenings free, a nine to five job might be right for you. But, if you prefer a rotational schedule that involves helping others and building meaningful relationships, you may want to consider a career in nursing.

Some nursing roles, like being a nurse for Indigenous Services Canada, for example, means, working autonomously, competitive wages and benefits such as growth opportunities, health-care coverage and, potentially, living allowances.
