5 ways to hit the destress button

by | May 7, 2023 | Uncategorized

Life can be stressful, but too much stress is bad for your health. That’s why it’s important to have ways to balance tension in your life. Here are five options to help you find calm in a storm.

Make some moves
A great way to destress is to get some exercise. If the weather is nice, head out for a jog or a bike ride. If you don’t feel like leaving the house, you can set up a simple home gym with some dumbbells and exercise bands. Another option: download a yoga or meditation app to stretch your body and your mind. It doesn’t have to take much time or money – even a few simple moves can make a difference.

Pamper yourself
For many of us, there’s nothing more soothing than reclining in a nice warm bath, with or without bubbles. Bring a book into the tub with you or turn down the lights and illuminate the room with candles. Or maybe some freshly painted nails or taking some time to groom your beard are what you need to boost your mood. While it’s not a miracle fix, taking time for something you enjoy can go a surprisingly long way.

Whip up a dose of comfort
Stress eating is not healthy. But preparing a favourite meal or baking some tasty treats for you and your family can be a soothing way to take your mind off of the daily grind. Sharing your creations is also a great way to connect with others. Social connection can be a helpful de-stressor for many of us.

Tune in to tune out
Whether you’re into classical music or hardcore heavy metal, few things can boost your spirits like listening to your favourite music. To fully immerse yourself, take a seat in your favourite chair and listen with headphones on. Another audio option: queue up the latest episode of your favourite podcast.

Be a responsible consumer
For some people, using cannabis is one way they like to wind down. To reduce the risks to your health, you should only buy products from legal suppliers. That’s the only way you can ensure that the products you’re buying have been tested for pesticides and other contaminants, have accurate THC and CBD levels, and are sold in child-resistant packaging. Cannabis products should always be stored in a locked cupboard or cabinet out of sight and reach of children.

If you find yourself turning to cannabis, alcohol or other substances too frequently, speak to your doctor for advice on how you can cut back on consumption.
